What is involved in a Gear Check: I look at your gear and I need to know what your "Budget" (in terms of gold and/or real money $) is. I point out the weakest parts of your gear and the ones you need to improve first. The reason this is twofold. One is you may simply have no idea and/or need inspiration and I'll be there to provide it for you. Two is important is because there is basically a direct relationship between gold and how powerful you can get (you spend gold, you get more stats). Some stats, given some pieces of gear, will cost less gold per stat. You may end up getting the same amount of stat upgrades for significantly cheaper due to having a direction.
What is involved in a "SUPER THOROUGH Gear, Stat, Ability Check": I bust out the spreadsheets (and yes, people can use the spreadsheets themselves but who wants to do math right? See calculators below if you want to do it yourself) and basically give you a breakdown of what every stat is worth to you both defensively and offensively. I'll email you a few easy to read tables so you don't have to go through crazy calculations. I'll see whether or not your gear synergizes with each other, whether you're using the correct abilities for your gear, etc. Could even go on the auction house and point out a specific piece(s) of gear you might want to buy.

why are you using X spell and not Y spell?: There are pros
and cons to each spell and you can only use so many of them. Each
wizard has his or her own style. There are some better for some
encounters than others, however, because of the Nephalem buff (At
level 60, stacks up to 5 times, get one stack each time you kill a
champion pack, useful for getting better magic items), you cannot
"pick and choose" the best for each encounter. Thus, I
choose a robust set good for most things. But lets get a bit more
specific since I get so many questions on these! To be clear,
I would be happy to debate some of the points of skill choice,
however, not in the form of "Why aren't you using Blizzard over
Arcane Orb?" You'd have to go deeper into that. I often
myself switch between a few of these.
- Blizzard vs Arcane Orb: Blizzard is a good spell, huge slow, easy to aim, hits lots of guys, Arcane Orb does more damage though. Blizzard is the safer spell, Arcane Orb is the more fast and furious. It's preference.
- Familiar vs Magic Weapon: Familiar does "look" like it does more damage if you have the familiar shooting in the same direction, but I often am not. Also, Magic Weapon's effects apply to things like Poison Hydra (whereas Familiar does not)
- Having BOTH Familiar (Sparkflint), AND Magic Weapon: You can only have 6 slots, and it'd be nice to get the extra damage but that would come at the cost of another spell.
- Signature Spells: Shock Pulse (Piercing Orb) vs Magic Missile (Seeker) vs Electrocute (Lightning Blast) vs Spectral Blades: Piercing Orb & Electrocute are AoE specialty spells with different aiming, Seeker Missile allows you to single target in sneaky ways around corners. Spectral Blades is more damage but requires you to gett close.
- Arcane Orb Rune: Obliteration vs Tap the Source vs Celestial Orb: They all have their pros and cons. Obliteration: More damage. Tap the Source: Less mana. Celestial Orb: More AoE. There's no clearly correct choice here.
- Teleport vs Diamond Skin: They are excellent defensive abilities but you can only have 6 slots. I'm constantly switching between one of these two. Teleport gets you away from crazy things, Diamond Skin allows you to survive in these crazy things a bit longer. Hard to say which is better.
- Mammoth Hydra, Frost Hydra, Lightning Hydra vs Venom Hydra: Venom Hydra does lots of DPS, obviously especially to things standing still, but even while kiting Venom Hydra is quite good.
- Energy Armor (prismatic) vs Energy Armor (force): To spare a lot of math, Energy Armor (Force) gives you a lot more survivability. Massive +hp. There are theories that if you have "enough" (lots lots) of resistances (800+?) that prismatic might be better.
Trump,
1 Handed + Offhand or 2 Handed?
Short
answer: Whatever gives you a bigger "Damage" number.
Slightly
longer answer: To compare your DPS with a 1 Handed + Offhand vs a 2
Handed, follow these steps:
- Average the damage on your off-hand. Example: 100-300 damage = 200 damage.
- Multiply the off-hand damage by your main hand attack speed (which is why a faster 1 hander will be better for a 1 handed + off hand setup). Example: Your 1 handed weapon attacks 1.5 times a second. 200 * 1.5 = 300.
- Add that amount to your 1 hander (example: your 1 hander does 900 DPS). 900 + 300 = 1200. If your 2 hander does 1200 or more damage, go with 2 hander. If less, go with 1 hander + off hand*

basics.
Trump,
I'm a Wizard in Inferno. Where should I be farming?:
- If you've just entered Inferno: Get 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor, then kill Leoric, the Skeleton King. Repeat until you're confident.
- Once confident, take the quest of rescuing the prisoners. With 5 stacks of Nephalem Valor, kill the Warden and the Butcher.
- Act 2 sucks. Try to get through it ASAP, the easiest way is to have a friend give you an Act 3 waypoint.
- At about 33.3k Damage and 33.3k life (minimum) you could start farming Siegebreaker in Act 3. Thems good loots.
Trump, I'm a Wizard. What stats should I be getting?:
- Step 0: Buy an awesome weapon on the auction house. That increases DPS a lot.
- Step 1: Get enough All Resistance, Vitality, and Armor to "survive". Yes, even at the cost of DPS.
- Step 2: Increase your stats as you're farming an area and focus on Attack Speed and Intelligence as well as the other things that improve your DPS (crit).
- Step 3: Repeat steps 0, 1, 2 as you get to each harder area.
Trump, I can't kill X! (X is often Belial on Inferno, or champion packs with invulnerable, or fast): You don't have to fight every battle. Belial Inferno is hard. Why not skip it and get someone to give you an Act 3 waypoint? Why not skip the champion packs that seem impossible? (You should)

have you killed Inferno Diablo yet?: Yes!

how did you get so much money?: I get good stuff and I price
it appropriately on the auction house. I'm also half-dragon.
Trump,
what should I price X item on the auction house for?: There
are some that are hard to know the price of. There are easy ones
though. The short answer is search similar items and price near those
prices. Example: "What is the price of this 1000 DPS 2 Hander
with +100 Str?" Go on the auction house, search 2 hander, look
at items with about 1000 DPS (you may need to filter by "maximum
buyout" to go down further pages and see these), then price
accordingly at whatever price they're going for. For trickier
items, feel free to ask for some advice on pricing while I'm on the
auction house screen.
Trump,
where did your gold go?: I buried it on an island. Arrr! No,
but really, I play the auction house a lot so expect my moneys to go
up and down even if I don't get any obvious upgrades for
myself.
Trump, how do you have both Magic Weapon and Energy Armor, both of which are Conjuration?: Turn on Elective Mode under options so you aren't forced into 1 from each "school of magic".
Trump, how do I switch my ring directly onto the off hand?: Hold down alt and right click the ring to put it on your "other" hand. (So to switch both rings, right click one of them, alt-right click the other)
Trump, what is on your Templar, what are his skills?: He's used for basically magic find and nothing else. My templar uses 90% magic find, which translates to 18% magic find for me (20% of MF on your follower is transferred to you). I chose all the skills on the left side for the Templar - Heal, Loyalty, Charge, Inspire.
Trump, what is your movement speed?: 118%. Lacuni Prowlers + Boots. It's nice for kiting.
Trump, how do you deal with Reflect Damage?: I have an amulet with lots of +Life on Hit that I switch to negate the damage that gets reflected back on me.
Trump, what is that symbol on your health globe?: The Terran logo, from Starcraft 2.
Trump, you don't have Force Armor on during Siegebreaker! It would one shot me anyways without it. Without force armor, I gain 20 arcane power, so it helps to not have it on.
